gloriouscurse: (; i'm the motherfucking mayor remember?)
Regina wasn't sure, exactly, how she'd managed to find herself in an easy friendship with Emma. She'd expected more push and pull than give and take, and somehow in the past few months they'd come up with a routine, they'd shared meals, they'd worked things out with arrangements for Henry. Things worked, and gone were most of the fleeting feelings of jealousy. They still flared every now and again, but it was easier now, it was usually nonsense, and most of the time she could talk herself into realizing she worried over nothing. The other times, Robin could. Having a friend was odd. Odd but...welcome. No one ever came to see her as a child, everyone feared Cora. And then she'd been queen, then she'd been what everyone knew her as.

And now she was friends with her son's biological mother, whom she'd tried to kill.

More than once.

It was friendship, no one ever said it wasn't complicated.

Which was a word that seemed to define their lives, even when the world wasn't rocky because of them or anything happening back home. Neal arriving had thrown Henry in ways Regina hadn't expected. Truthfully, she hadn't known what to expect in that situation, but his outburst, slamming the door and then the tears, both of them rocking back and forth on the floor wasn't something her heart had been ready for. So, she was glad for dinner the next night, was glad for the wine after, and poured she and Emma each a glass after Henry went to bed.

"Well. I'd say as far as a wrench in the system goes, this one's not bad, at least. Neal is real, in any case, so that's a start."
