Private to Henry

Neal's just kind of been watching his kid and the way he interacts with his moms and his friends, and it's not that he feels like an outside - even though he really, honest to God is - it's that they know him in a way he doesn't, and he knows them in a way that never happened. Regina gives him a look when he's putting more meat than vegetables on his plate, Emma sneaks him extra marshmallows on top of the sweet potatoes, and even though Regina sees it she lets it go. They're all in sync, and Neal's across and kind of to the left and just watching.

At least he gets to do that, now. Take his kid in, look at the way his friends want for his attention before and after dinner (And wow, Emma wasn't lying, they're all girls), and realizes he's missed out on a hell of a lot, and he'll miss out on a hell of a lot more.

Still, he has to make the most of it, right?

After dinner, when there seems to be a lull in the video gaming in the living room, Neal puts a hand on Henry's shoulder. "Hey, I haven't had the chance to really say it yet, but your pumpkin pie was pretty good. I think I hate half of it on my own." His smile is warm, arm turned out a little in case it's not too unmanly yet to hug his old man in front of company.
